THE GOVERNMENT has made “a catastrophic mistake” on the numbers of pupils staying in education after the age of 16, according to Shadow Children’s Secretary, Michael Gove. Gove’s comments were made after the Learning and Skills Council told schools and sixth form colleges that their funding for next year would be lower than they were expecting. He has now written to Schools Secretary Ed Balls, expressing concern about the effect of the decrease in funding on their budgets, teachers and students.
